Steps

1. Set context — Fix the scope, target and horizon so every candidate is judged against the same bar.
2. Build the opportunity universe — Generate candidate spaces from adjacencies, geographic expansion, product gaps and demand shifts — not just today's markets.
3. Size each opportunity — Estimate a defensible potential range (serviceable, not headline TAM) with the attach and share assumptions made explicit.
4. Score attractiveness — Rate each space on growth, margin quality and competitive intensity to separate big-but-brutal from smaller-but-winnable.
5. Assess fit & entry — Score strategic and capability fit, then stress-test the hardest-to-enter spaces on barriers, channel and build-vs-buy.
6. Prioritize & sequence — Combine attractiveness and fit into a weighted ranking, then sequence by readiness and dependency.
7. Recommend & flag gaps — Recommend where to commit first and name the evidence that must be firmed up before a go decision.
