Steps

1. Define the thesis — State what capability or position the acquisition must buy, and why building it is too slow.
2. Build the candidate universe — Assemble companies that plausibly deliver the thesis, not just the household names.
3. Apply screening filters — Filter on size, geography, ownership and availability to a workable long-list.
4. Score strategic fit — Score each candidate on how squarely it delivers the thesis and adjacent optionality.
5. Assess synergy & value — Estimate the revenue and cost synergy that would justify a control premium.
6. Pressure-test risk — Surface the integration, IP and diligence risks that could break the case.
7. Shortlist & recommend — Rank the survivors and recommend which to approach first.
