Two theses, both capability buys where an organic build is too slow to matter: (1) acquire machine-vision IP to accelerate the inspection-attach opportunity and blunt Axtron's vision move; (2) acquire high-temperature heat-pump capability to enter European industrial heat two years faster than a build allows.
Screened beyond the obvious names — machine-vision AI companies with industrial deployments and heat-pump specialists with genuine high-temperature capability. Nine candidates entered the long-list, three per thesis after an availability pass.
Filtered on revenue scale (buyable, not transformational), geography (must strengthen the target region), ownership (venture- or founder-held, plausibly available) and strategic fit. Three candidates survived.

Scored each survivor on how squarely it delivers its thesis plus adjacent optionality. VisionWorks scores highest — its IP maps directly onto the installed cobot base — with ThermaCore close behind on a cleaner integration path.

Estimated the synergy that would justify a control premium. ThermaCore is the stronger synergy case — it compresses a ~2-year entry and brings an EU field-service footprint Meridian would otherwise build. VisionWorks' synergy is faster attach revenue on an existing base rather than cost-out.
Assumptions
VisionWorks' core value is its IP, so defensibility is the swing risk; ThermaCore's risk is integration of a founder-led team and field organisation. Neither shows a red flag that breaks the case, but both need targeted diligence before an approach.
